Utah War

The Utah War was an 1857–1858 armed confrontation between the United States government and Utah’s territorial government, led by Brigham Young. It ended without a major battle between the opposing armies.

Buchanan's Blunder: A nickname for President James Buchanan’s decision to send an army to Utah in 1857 without first confirming reports of rebellion. The expedition began with Buchanan’s attempt to replace Brigham Young as territorial governor.
