Väinö Linna

Väinö Linna (1920–1992) was a Finnish novelist whose fiction examined war, class, and social change, especially in The Unknown Soldier and the Under the North Star trilogy.

The Unknown Soldier: A 1954 Finnish novel depicting a machine-gun company during the Continuation War. Linna’s war novel follows ordinary soldiers through combat and challenges heroic accounts of the conflict.
Finnish literature: Literature written in Finnish, including works from Finland’s oral traditions to contemporary writing. Linna’s novels became landmark works within Finland’s literary tradition.
