Vakataka dynasty

The Vakataka dynasty was an ancient Indian royal house that ruled parts of the Deccan and central India from the third to fifth centuries CE.

Vindhyashakti: Vindhyashakti was the earliest known ruler of the Vakataka dynasty. He founded the ruling house in the Deccan, though details of his reign remain sparse.
Pravarasena II: Pravarasena II was a Vakataka king known from inscriptions and literary traditions. His reign is associated with the dynasty’s eastern branch and its capital at Pravarapura.
Deccan: The Deccan is the large plateau region of peninsular India. The dynasty’s principal territories lay across the northern Deccan.

Varahadeva: Varahadeva was a Vakataka minister who sponsored a Buddhist cave at Ajanta. His donation shows how elite officials supported Buddhist monuments alongside royal patronage.
Kalachuri dynasty: The Kalachuri dynasty was a line of rulers that held power in parts of central India in different periods. Its later regional prominence contrasts with the Vakatakas’ earlier central Indian rule.
