Valentin Haüy

Valentin Haüy (1745–1822) was a French educator who founded the first school for blind children and developed embossed printing to make books accessible to blind readers.

Royal Institution for Blind Youth: A Paris school for blind students founded by Valentin Haüy in 1785, now known as the National Institute for Young Blind People. Haüy founded this school to provide blind children with formal education.
Haüy system: An early tactile reading method that used raised versions of ordinary printed letters. This system was Haüy’s approach to making printed language legible by touch.
