Velcro

Velcro is a trademarked hook-and-loop fastening system in which tiny hooks on one fabric strip catch loops on another, allowing repeated opening and closing.

Hook-and-loop fastener: A reusable fastener made from two surfaces, one bearing hooks and the other loops that catch them. Velcro is the best-known branded implementation of this fastening principle.
George de Mestral: A Swiss engineer who invented the hook-and-loop fastening system later marketed as Velcro. He developed the fastening idea after examining burrs that clung to clothing and animal fur.
Clothing fastener: A device or construction used to hold parts of a garment together. Velcro provides a quick, adjustable alternative to buttons, snaps, and zippers.
