Vermicompost

Vermicompost is organic material produced as earthworms and microorganisms decompose organic waste. It is used as a soil amendment and contains stabilized organic matter and plant nutrients.

Earthworm: An earthworm is a segmented soil-dwelling invertebrate that feeds on organic material and soil. Its feeding, burrowing, and cast production drive the physical breakdown of waste.
Vermiculture: Vermiculture is the managed rearing of earthworms for products or services. Vermicomposting is a form of vermiculture focused on processing organic waste.

Digestate: Digestate is the residual material left after anaerobic digestion of organic matter. It results from oxygen-free processing rather than earthworm-assisted decomposition.
Soil microbiology: Soil microbiology is the study of microorganisms and their activities in soil. Microbes collaborate with worms to decompose feedstock and transform nutrients.
Organic waste: Organic waste is discarded material derived from plants, animals, or other biological sources. Kitchen scraps and other biodegradable residues commonly supply vermicompost systems.
