Vicente Guerrero

Vicente Guerrero was a Mexican independence leader and military officer who served as president of Mexico from 1829 to 1830. He continued the insurgency after other major rebel leaders were defeated and later became a symbol of abolitionism and Mexican independence.

Mexican War of Independence: An armed conflict from 1810 to 1821 that ended Spanish rule in Mexico. Guerrero became one of the insurgency’s leading commanders after its early leaders fell.
Agustín de Iturbide: A royalist officer who joined the independence movement and became emperor of Mexico in 1822. His alliance with Guerrero’s forces helped end the war, before their political paths diverged.
Siege of Cuautla: A 1812 siege in which insurgent forces under José María Morelos resisted royalist troops in Cuautla. The insurgent campaign formed part of the war Guerrero entered and continued after Morelos’s defeat.
