Victor Cousin

Victor Cousin (1792–1867) was a French philosopher and educational administrator who made eclecticism influential in nineteenth-century France and shaped state education.

Eclecticism: A philosophical approach that selects and combines ideas from different schools rather than adhering wholly to one. Cousin turned this broad method into a prominent French philosophical school.
École normale supérieure: A French institution of higher education founded in 1794 to train teachers and scholars. Cousin studied and later taught at this institution, where his philosophical influence took shape.
