Victor Fleming

Victor Fleming (1889–1949) was an American film director whose credits include The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind, both released in 1939.

The Wizard of Oz: A 1939 musical fantasy film about Dorothy Gale's journey through the magical land of Oz. Fleming directed this landmark fantasy, taking over the production during filming.
Hollywood studio system: A system in which major film studios controlled production, distribution, and exhibition. MGM's centralized production system gave Fleming access to large budgets and extensive crews.
David O. Selznick: An American film producer who led Selznick International Pictures and produced Gone with the Wind. Selznick selected Fleming to direct Gone with the Wind after dismissing George Cukor.
La Crosse, Wisconsin: A city in western Wisconsin on the Mississippi River. Fleming was born in La Crosse in 1889.
Academy Award for Best Director: An annual Academy Award recognizing a film's director for outstanding achievement. Fleming won the award for Gone with the Wind at the 1940 ceremony.
