Video art

Video art is an art form that uses recorded or generated moving images as its primary medium, presented through screens, installations, or projections.

Nam June Paik: A Korean-American artist whose experimental television works helped establish video art. His manipulated televisions and electronic images made video art visible as a distinct practice.
Closed-circuit television: A television system that sends images to a limited set of monitors rather than broadcasting them publicly. Live camera-to-monitor feedback lets an installation make surveillance, delay, or self-observation visible.
Single-channel video: A video artwork presented as one sequence on one screen or projection surface. This format foregrounds editing and duration while retaining the familiar structure of a moving image.

Commercial cinema: Film production and distribution organized primarily around theatrical exhibition and commercial audiences. Video art often departs from cinema’s narrative conventions, production systems, and theater-based viewing.
Video installation art in museums: The exhibition of video-based artworks within museum galleries and collections. Institutional display changed how moving images are collected, conserved, and viewed as art.
