Việt Minh

The Việt Minh was a Vietnamese nationalist and communist-led front founded in 1941 to seek independence from French rule. It led the August Revolution and the resistance that established the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

League for the Independence of Vietnam: The Việt Minh was the short name of the League for the Independence of Vietnam, founded in 1941. This formal name identifies the coalition behind the Việt Minh label.
Indochinese Communist Party: The communist party founded in 1930 that supplied the Việt Minh's principal organized leadership. Its cadres built the front while placing independence within a communist-led revolution.
Võ Nguyên Giáp: A Vietnamese general who commanded forces of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam against France and later South Vietnam. He developed the military campaign that brought Việt Minh forces to decisive victory at Điện Biên Phủ.
