View from the Window at Le Gras

A heliograph made by Nicéphore Niépce around 1826 or 1827, widely regarded as the earliest surviving photograph produced with a camera. Its image records rooftops and landscape from a window at Niépce’s estate in Burgundy.

Heliography: An early photographic process developed by Nicéphore Niépce, using light to make images on treated surfaces. Niépce made this image with the process he called heliography.
