Knowra Visegrád Group Visegrád Group The Visegrád Group is a regional alliance of Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia, founded in 1991 to coordinate cooperation and pursue shared interests in Europe.
Visegrád Summit : A meeting of the leaders or representatives of Visegrád Group countries to coordinate regional policy. The group’s founding was agreed at a summit in Visegrád, Hungary, in 1991.
International Visegrad Fund : An organization established by the Visegrád countries to support cultural, academic, and civil-society cooperation. It turns the alliance’s cooperation aims into grants and exchange programs.
Central European Defence Cooperation : A framework for defense and security cooperation among Central European states, including the Visegrád countries. It extends the group’s regional coordination into defense and migration-related security.
European Council : The EU institution where national leaders set the Union’s general political direction and priorities. Unlike this formal EU institution, the Visegrád Group has no treaty-based authority over its members.
2004 enlargement of the European Union : The EU enlargement on 1 May 2004 that admitted ten states, including all four Visegrád countries. Accession fulfilled the group’s original integration goal and changed its role within Europe.
Velvet Revolution : The largely peaceful 1989 revolution that ended communist rule in Czechoslovakia. Czechoslovakia’s democratic transition helped create the conditions for regional cooperation.
Visegrád Group presidency : A rotating chairmanship that sets priorities and coordinates the Visegrád Group’s work. Annual presidencies organize initiatives without creating a permanent central government.
Three Seas Initiative : A regional forum promoting infrastructure and energy links among countries between the Baltic, Adriatic, and Black seas. Several Visegrád members use this wider platform to advance connectivity projects.
Central European Initiative : A regional cooperation forum of Central, Eastern, and Southeastern European countries founded in 1989. It covers a wider and more diverse membership than the four-country Visegrád alliance.
Central Europe : A geographic and historical region of Europe whose boundaries vary by context. The alliance gives four Central European states a recurring platform for collective action.
