Volleyball

Volleyball is a team sport in which players send a ball over a net and try to ground it in the opposing court. Teams may touch the ball up to three times before returning it.

Volleyball court: The rectangular playing area divided into two halves by a net. Its boundary lines and attack lines determine where players may play the ball.
Volleyball pass: A controlled first contact used to direct a served or attacked ball toward a teammate. A reliable pass gives the setter options for the next touch.
Beach volleyball: A volleyball variant played outdoors on sand, usually by teams of two. Its smaller teams and sand surface make every player responsible for more court coverage.
William G. Morgan: The American physical education instructor who created volleyball in 1895. Morgan devised the game at the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship: An international tournament contested by men's national volleyball teams. It is one of the sport's leading national-team championships.
Volleyball positions: The specialized roles players occupy in a volleyball lineup. Positions organize who receives, sets, attacks, blocks, and defends.
Volleyball set: A usually overhead contact that places the ball for a teammate to attack. The set coordinates the timing and location of an attack.
Sitting volleyball: An indoor volleyball variant in which seated players move across a smaller court beneath a lower net. Its adapted court and movement rules create a distinct form of net play.
Mintonette: The original name given to the game now known as volleyball. The early name reflected the sport's adaptation of elements from other games.
FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship: An international tournament contested by women's national volleyball teams. It provides the women's counterpart to the men's world championship.
