Wall Street

Wall Street is a street in Lower Manhattan, New York City, associated with the city’s financial district and securities industry.

New Amsterdam: A seventeenth-century Dutch colonial settlement at the southern end of Manhattan Island. Wall Street lies in the area that became New Amsterdam.
Federal Hall: A historic building on Wall Street where George Washington was inaugurated as the first U.S. president. Its site connects the street’s financial identity to the early federal government.
Panic of 1907: A financial crisis in the United States that helped spur creation of the Federal Reserve System. The crisis exposed the risks of relying on Wall Street financiers to stabilize markets.
