Wanli Emperor

The Wanli Emperor, born Zhu Yijun, was the 13th emperor of the Ming dynasty, ruling China from 1572 to 1620. His reign began with effective regency and ended amid political paralysis and fiscal strain.

Longqing Emperor: The 12th Ming emperor, who ruled from 1567 to 1572 and was Wanli’s father. His death brought the young Zhu Yijun to the throne.
Grand Secretariat: A senior Ming government body that coordinated imperial administration and prepared documents for the emperor. Its officials became central to governing when Wanli withdrew from routine court business.
