War against the Islamic State

The multinational military campaign launched in 2014 to defeat the Islamic State, fought chiefly in Iraq and Syria through air strikes, ground operations, and local partnerships.

Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve: The U.S.-led coalition headquarters directing military operations against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. It coordinated the coalition’s air campaign, training, and support to partner forces.
Battle of Mosul: The 2016–2017 Iraqi offensive that retook Mosul from the Islamic State. Mosul was the group’s largest stronghold in Iraq and a defining campaign victory.
