War of Actium

The 32–30 BCE conflict between Octavian and the forces of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. Octavian’s victory ended the Roman Republic’s final civil war and secured his sole rule.

Battle of Actium: The naval battle fought off western Greece on 2 September 31 BCE between Octavian’s fleet and Antony and Cleopatra’s forces. The decisive engagement that broke Antony and Cleopatra’s military position.
Augustus: The first Roman emperor, born Gaius Octavius and later known as Octavian, who ruled from 27 BCE to 14 CE. His victory transformed him from a triumvir into Rome’s undisputed ruler.
Second Triumvirate: The legally constituted alliance of Octavian, Mark Antony, and Lepidus that governed Rome from 43 BCE. Its division of power established the partnership that ultimately collapsed into war.

Cleopatra: Cleopatra VII, the last active ruler of Ptolemaic Egypt, who allied with Mark Antony against Octavian. Her alliance with Antony became central to the conflict’s military and political framing.
