War of the League of Cognac

The War of the League of Cognac was a 1526–1530 conflict in which France, Pope Clement VII, and their allies challenged Emperor Charles V’s power in Italy. It included the 1527 sack of Rome and ended with Charles’s dominance strengthened.

League of Cognac: An alliance formed in 1526 by France, Pope Clement VII, and Italian states against Emperor Charles V. This coalition supplied the political framework for the war against Charles’s influence in Italy.
