War of the Polish Succession

A European war fought from 1733 to 1735 over the Polish throne after Augustus II died, chiefly between supporters of Stanisław Leszczyński and Augustus III.

Election of 1733: The Polish royal election in 1733, which chose Stanisław Leszczyński amid competing foreign pressure. Its disputed outcome triggered the war and divided Polish political factions.
Stanisław Leszczyński: A Polish king elected in 1704 and 1733, whose second claim was defeated by foreign intervention. His contested election supplied the French-backed cause of the war.
