Huari : The highland capital of the Wari state, near modern Ayacucho, Peru. Its monumental compounds and dense settlement offer the clearest view of Wari political and urban organization.
Huarpa culture : A pre-Wari society of the Ayacucho region known through settlements, irrigation, and ceramics. Huarpa traditions formed part of the local background from which Wari society developed.
Andean civilization : The succession of complex societies that developed in the Andes before and during the Inca Empire. Wari belongs to a long regional history rather than appearing in isolation.
Cerro Baúl : A Wari ceremonial and administrative center built atop a mountain in southern Peru. Its location near Tiwanaku territory makes it a striking case of Wari presence at the southern frontier.
