Water slide

A water slide is a sloped structure that carries riders down a wet surface into a pool or runout area. Its shape, surface, and water flow govern the ride.

Friction: A force that resists relative motion between surfaces in contact. Water reduces contact friction between riders and the slide surface.
Waterslide flume: The channel forming the riding path of a water slide. Its cross-section and route determine how riders are supported and directed.
Body slide: A water slide ridden directly on the rider’s body, without a raft or mat. It removes the vehicle from the ride, making surface contact central.
Insano: A 41-meter-tall water slide at Beach Park in Brazil, opened in 1989. Its exceptional height made it a landmark example of a steep body slide.
Gravity: The attraction between masses, which gives objects weight and pulls them toward Earth. Gravity supplies the downhill force that accelerates riders.
Water pump: A device that moves liquid by applying mechanical energy. Pumps deliver the water needed to wet the slide surface.
Tube slide: A water slide in which riders travel through an enclosed or partly enclosed tube. Its enclosed route changes visibility, lighting, and the feeling of motion.
Summit Plummet: A high-speed body slide at Disney's Blizzard Beach water park in Florida. Its steep descent illustrates how launch height shapes a slide’s ride profile.
Hydrodynamics: The study of liquids in motion and the forces they exert. Water flow across the flume affects drag, lubrication, and ride behavior.
Splash pool: A shallow pool designed for water play or to receive riders at a slide’s end. Some slides end by releasing riders into a pool.
