Watt steam engine

A family of steam engines developed around James Watt’s improvements, especially the separate condenser, which reduced fuel consumption by keeping the cylinder hot.

Separate condenser: A vessel separate from an engine cylinder where steam is condensed, allowing the cylinder to remain hot. Watt’s defining improvement condensed exhaust steam without cooling the working cylinder.
Newcomen engine: An atmospheric steam engine developed by Thomas Newcomen, widely used to pump water from mines. Watt’s separate condenser addressed the fuel-wasting cycle of cooling Newcomen’s cylinder.
