Weaver ant

A tropical arboreal ant that builds nests by drawing living leaves together and using silk produced by its larvae to bind them.

Oecophylla: A genus of arboreal ants that includes the Asian and African weaver ants. Weaver ants belong to this genus, whose species use the same leaf-binding strategy.
Biological pest control: The use of living organisms to suppress pests that damage crops or other resources. Weaver ants are deployed as predators to reduce insect pests in orchards.
Oecophylla smaragdina: An Asian weaver ant species found from India to northern Australia. This species is widely studied and used in tropical orchard pest control.
