Web server

A web server is software, hardware, or both that receives requests and delivers web resources, commonly using HTTP or HTTPS.

HTTP: A protocol for transferring web resources through requests and responses. Web servers use HTTP rules to interpret requests and format responses.
Client–server model: A computing architecture in which clients request services and servers provide them. A web server is the server side of this request-and-response arrangement.
Static web page: A web page delivered as stored content rather than generated separately for each request. Serving stored pages is a direct use of a web server.
Application server: Software that runs application logic and provides services to other programs or clients. It focuses on executing application logic, while a web server handles web-facing requests and responses.
Reverse proxy: An intermediary that accepts client requests and forwards them to one or more servers. It can receive public traffic before passing requests to web servers.
Internet Protocol: The network-layer protocol that addresses and routes packets across interconnected networks. IP delivers client traffic to the network hosting a web server.
Dynamic web page: A web page whose content is generated or altered in response to data or user requests. A web server can pass requests to application code that generates page content.
Web hosting service: A service that provides infrastructure and resources for publishing websites online. A hosting service supplies an environment; a web server is one component within it.
Web server software: Programs that accept web requests and serve responses, such as Apache HTTP Server and Nginx. This is the software component that handles protocol requests and resource delivery.
Transmission Control Protocol: A transport protocol that provides ordered, reliable byte streams between network applications. Traditional HTTP connections rely on TCP to carry their data.
