Wet season

A recurring part of the year when a region receives substantially more rainfall than during its dry season. Its timing and intensity vary with climate and location.

Intertropical Convergence Zone: A belt near the equator where trade winds converge, promoting rising air, clouds, and heavy rainfall. Its seasonal migration brings rainy periods to many tropical regions.
Rain-fed agriculture: Crop production that relies on rainfall rather than irrigation as its primary water source. Planting calendars often depend on the onset and reliability of seasonal rains.
Indian summer monsoon: The seasonal monsoon circulation that brings most of India's annual rainfall during summer. It is a major example of a wet season linked to monsoon winds.
Seasonality: Regular changes in environmental conditions that recur over the course of a year. Wet and dry seasons are a prominent form of climatic seasonality.
Monsoon: A seasonal reversal of winds that produces distinct wet and dry periods in some regions. Monsoon circulation drives pronounced wet seasons across South and Southeast Asia and elsewhere.

Hydrological cycle: The continuous movement of water among the atmosphere, land, oceans, and living things. Wet-season rainfall replenishes rivers, soil moisture, and groundwater within this cycle.
Hadley cell: A tropical atmospheric circulation in which air rises near the equator and sinks in the subtropics. Its shifting rain and descent belts help explain broad seasonal rainfall patterns.
Drought: A prolonged period of unusually low water availability relative to local conditions. A dry-season shortfall can persist into the rains when onset is delayed or rainfall fails.
