White point

A white point is a reference chromaticity that defines which color an imaging system or color space treats as neutral white. It anchors color interpretation and conversion between systems.

Chromatic adaptation: A visual or computational adjustment that compensates for changes in illumination so colors appear more stable. It explains how vision or software adjusts when the illuminant differs from the defined white.
Chromaticity: A description of color independent of its overall brightness. A white point specifies chromaticity, not the luminance of white.
sRGB: A standard RGB color space for consumer displays, web graphics, and general digital imaging. Its D65 white point is part of the space's defining colorimetric specification.
D50: A CIE standard illuminant representing horizon light with a correlated color temperature of about 5000 kelvins. It is a warmer reference white than D65 and is common in print workflows.
Color temperature: A measure, expressed in kelvins, that describes the color of light by comparison with a heated blackbody radiator. Correlated color temperature commonly specifies the appearance of a white point.
CIE standard illuminant: A standardized spectral power distribution used as a reference source in colorimetry. Standard illuminants provide the conditions associated with many defined white points.
Adobe RGB color space: An RGB color space designed to encompass a wider range of printable colors than sRGB. Its D65 reference white enables consistent conversion with other color spaces.
D55: A CIE standard illuminant representing mid-morning or mid-afternoon daylight. Its chromaticity lies between the commonly contrasted D50 and D65 whites.
CIE 1931 color space: A color space that represents visible colors with three tristimulus values and chromaticity coordinates. Its chromaticity diagram provides coordinates for specifying white points.
CIE 1960 UCS: A uniform chromaticity diagram that maps colors into coordinates used in colorimetry. Its coordinates are used to define common illuminants such as D65.
