Wild Bill Hickok

James Butler Hickok (1837–1876) was an American frontier lawman, scout, and gunfighter whose exploits and death helped make him a figure of Western folklore.

Calamity Jane: Martha Jane Canary (c. 1852–1903) was an American frontierswoman whose life became the subject of legend. Her claimed association with Hickok helped fuel stories about both figures.
American Civil War: The American Civil War (1861–1865) was a conflict between the United States and the Confederacy over slavery and secession. Hickok’s wartime service and scouting began amid this conflict.
Springfield gunfight: The Springfield gunfight was Hickok’s 1865 duel with Davis Tutt in Springfield, Missouri, fought with pistols at long range. Its public setting and reported precision made it a landmark in Hickok’s gunfighter legend.
