Willard Boyle

Willard Boyle (1924–2011) was a Canadian-American physicist who co-invented the charge-coupled device (CCD) with George E. Smith and shared the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics.

George E. Smith: George E. Smith is an American physicist who co-invented the charge-coupled device with Willard Boyle. Boyle and Smith conceived the CCD together at Bell Labs in 1969.
Charge-coupled device: A charge-coupled device is a semiconductor sensor that transfers stored electrical charge to measure or capture an image. This is the device Boyle co-invented with Smith and the basis of his Nobel recognition.
