William C. Durant

William C. Durant was an American businessman who founded General Motors and co-founded Chevrolet, helping shape the early U.S. automobile industry.

Louis Chevrolet: Louis Chevrolet was a Swiss-American race-car driver, mechanic, and automobile designer who co-founded the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. Durant partnered with Chevrolet in 1911 to establish the company bearing Chevrolet’s name.
Flint Road Cart Company: The Michigan carriage manufacturer founded by William C. Durant and Josiah Dallas Dort in 1886. Durant’s success building this company supplied the business experience and capital for his move into automobiles.
