William Congreve

William Congreve (1670–1729) was an English playwright and poet best known for witty Restoration comedies, especially The Way of the World.

The Way of the World: William Congreve’s 1700 comedy of manners, centered on the courtship of Mirabell and Millamant. Its intricate plot and famous proviso scene represent Congreve’s mature comic style.
