William Goldman

William Goldman (1931–2018) was an American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter whose work included The Princess Bride, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Adventures in the Screen Trade.

The Princess Bride: William Goldman’s 1973 novel frames a fantasy adventure as an abridgment of a supposedly older work. Goldman adapted his own novel into the screenplay for the 1987 film.
Unreliable narrator: A narrator whose account cannot be accepted as fully accurate or trustworthy. Goldman uses a fictional abridger to frame The Princess Bride’s tale.
George Roy Hill: An American film director whose work included Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Hill directed Goldman’s screenplay for the film.
