William Huggins

William Huggins (1824–1910) was an English astronomer who pioneered astronomical spectroscopy, using stellar and nebular spectra to investigate the composition and motion of celestial objects.

Astronomical spectroscopy: The study of astronomical objects through the spectra of their emitted, absorbed, or scattered light. Huggins helped establish this method as a way to investigate stars and nebulae.
Sirius: The brightest star in Earth’s night sky, a binary system about 8.6 light-years away. Huggins identified hydrogen and other elements in its spectrum.
