William J. Donovan

William J. Donovan was an American lawyer and Army officer who led the Office of Strategic Services during World War II. He helped establish the foundations of the United States’ postwar intelligence system.

Franklin D. Roosevelt: Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States, serving from 1933 until his death in 1945. Roosevelt appointed Donovan to lead the wartime intelligence organization he had authorized.
World War I: World War I was a global conflict fought from 1914 to 1918, primarily in Europe. Donovan’s decorated Army service in France established his military reputation.
Office of Strategic Services: The Office of Strategic Services was the United States’ wartime intelligence and special-operations agency during World War II. Donovan directed the agency, coordinating espionage, analysis, and operations behind enemy lines.

Jedburgh teams: Jedburgh teams were Allied three-person units that parachuted into occupied Europe to support resistance forces. Their multinational missions exemplified the kind of unconventional warfare Donovan promoted.
