William Kennedy Dickson

William Kennedy Laurie Dickson was a Scottish-born inventor and filmmaker who helped develop the Kinetograph camera and Kinetoscope viewing system at Thomas Edison’s laboratory.

Kinetograph: An early motion-picture camera developed at Edison’s laboratory to record moving images on film. Dickson helped design and operate this camera as the laboratory’s film experiments took shape.
Intermittent mechanism: A mechanism that advances film in discrete steps, holding each frame briefly in position for exposure or projection. The Kinetograph needed intermittent motion to expose successive frames without smearing them.
