William Lyon Mackenzie

William Lyon Mackenzie was a Scottish-born Canadian journalist and politician who led the 1837 Upper Canada Rebellion and became Toronto’s first mayor.

Scotland: A country occupying the northern part of Great Britain. Mackenzie was born in Scotland in 1795 before emigrating to Upper Canada.
Upper Canada Rebellion: An armed uprising against colonial government in Upper Canada in December 1837. Mackenzie helped organize and lead the rising that sought major political change.
