William Morris

William Morris (1834–1896) was an English designer, writer, and socialist whose handmade textiles, wallpapers, books, and political activism helped shape the Arts and Crafts movement.

Arts and Crafts movement: A late nineteenth-century movement that valued skilled handwork, useful design, and the dignity of labor. Morris became its most influential British designer and public advocate.
Morris & Co.: The decorative arts firm founded by William Morris and his associates, producing furnishings, textiles, and wallpapers. It turned Morris’s ideas about design and skilled production into a working business.
Edward Burne-Jones: An English painter and designer associated with the Pre-Raphaelite circle and the Arts and Crafts movement. His lifelong friendship with Morris began at Oxford and shaped their artistic careers.
