William the Silent

William I, Prince of Orange (1533–1584), led the Dutch revolt against Spanish rule and became a founding figure of the Dutch Republic.

Habsburg Netherlands: The Low Countries territories ruled by the Habsburg dynasty from the late fifteenth century until the Dutch Revolt. William’s political career unfolded within these provinces under Philip II.
