Windows 3.1

Windows 3.1 is a 1992 Microsoft graphical operating environment that ran on MS-DOS. It added TrueType font support, improved multimedia capabilities, and refined Windows 3.0.

MS-DOS: MS-DOS is a command-line operating system for x86 personal computers, released by Microsoft in 1981. Windows 3.1 relied on DOS to start up and provide low-level system services.
Graphical user interface: A graphical user interface lets people interact with a computer through visual elements such as windows, icons, and menus. Windows 3.1 presented DOS-based computing through a visual desktop rather than only command lines.
Windows 1.0: Windows 1.0 is Microsoft’s first graphical environment for MS-DOS, released in 1985. It began the Windows line that developed into the more capable Windows 3.1.

Windows 2.0: Windows 2.0 is a Microsoft graphical environment for MS-DOS released in 1987. Its overlapping windows and expanded application support set precedents for later releases.
Microsoft Word for Windows: Microsoft Word is a word-processing application developed by Microsoft. Word for Windows used Windows 3.1’s graphical interface and TrueType text rendering.
Windows 95: Windows 95 is a Microsoft operating system released in 1995, combining a graphical interface with a more integrated operating system. It replaced the Program Manager-era desktop with a new interface while carrying Windows into the next generation.
