Windows Registry

The Windows Registry is a hierarchical database that stores configuration settings for Windows, hardware, users, and installed applications. Its keys and values are organized into predefined root hives.

Registry hive: A registry hive is a major section of the Windows Registry stored as a file on disk. Hives are the registry’s top-level storage units, loaded into memory when Windows starts or a user signs in.
