Witold Gombrowicz

Witold Gombrowicz (1904–1969) was a Polish novelist, playwright, and essayist whose fiction and drama examine how social forms shape identity, often through grotesque comedy.

Ferdydurke: A 1937 novel by Witold Gombrowicz in which an adult is forced back into school and subjected to social molding. Its humiliating schoolroom episodes dramatize Gombrowicz’s account of identity imposed by others.
