Knowra Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve A vast protected area in southeastern Alaska encompassing the Wrangell Mountains, major glaciers, volcanic landscapes, and historic mining sites. It is the largest national park in the United States.
Mount Blackburn : A 16,390-foot volcano in the Wrangell Mountains and the highest peak in the range. Its ice-covered summit anchors one of the park’s most imposing mountain landscapes.
Wrangell Volcanic Field : A volcanic region in eastern Alaska containing numerous shield volcanoes and other volcanic features. Its volcanoes account for much of the range’s distinctive broad, ice-covered summits.
Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act : A 1980 United States law that designated and expanded protected areas across Alaska. This law established Wrangell–St. Elias National Park and Preserve in its current form.
Kennecott, Alaska : A former copper-mining company town in the Wrangell Mountains, now a historic settlement within the park. It is a principal destination for exploring the park’s mining history.

Continental glacier : A vast ice mass covering a large land area rather than flowing from a mountain valley. The park’s ice is chiefly mountain and piedmont glacier ice, not a continental ice sheet.
