Xiling Gorge

Xiling Gorge is the westernmost of the Three Gorges on China’s Yangtze River, in Hubei Province. Its lower end lies near the Three Gorges Dam.

Three Gorges Dam: A hydroelectric dam across the Yangtze River near Sandouping in Hubei Province, completed in 2006. The dam stands at the gorge’s western end and reshaped its downstream river landscape.
Yangtze River: The longest river in Asia, flowing from the Tibetan Plateau across China to the East China Sea. Xiling Gorge is one reach of this river’s middle course.
Yangtze River Three Gorges: A deeply incised reach of the Yangtze where the river cuts through mountainous terrain. Xiling’s steep relief is part of this larger river-cut landscape.
