Xin Qiji

Xin Qiji (1140–1207) was a Southern Song poet, military leader, and statesman whose ci lyrics joined forceful language with appeals to recover northern China.

Ci poetry: A form of Chinese lyric poetry written to established tune patterns, with variable line lengths. Xin’s best-known poems use this song-derived form to express political longing and personal reflection.
Han Tuozhou: A Southern Song statesman who led a campaign against the Jin dynasty in 1206. Xin supported renewed war against the Jin, though the campaign began shortly before his death.
Song poetry: The poetry produced during the Song dynasty, encompassing shi, ci, and other forms. Xin worked within Song literary culture while making ci carry unusually public political argument.
