Yajna

A Vedic sacrificial rite in which offerings are made through prescribed actions and spoken formulas. Its ritual logic links human acts of giving with relations among gods, people, and the cosmos.

Vedic mantra: A sacred utterance from the Vedic tradition, recited or sung in ritual and contemplation. Spoken formulas accompany actions and articulate the rite's intentions.
Rta: The Vedic principle of cosmic and moral order that sustains the world. Ritual action was understood to uphold the order expressed by ṛta.
