Yakhchāl

A traditional Persian ice house that used thick walls and evaporative cooling to store ice and preserve food through hot seasons.

Evaporative cooling: Cooling produced when liquid water absorbs heat as it evaporates. Porous surfaces and airflow helped lower temperatures around the structure.
