Yamagata Prefecture

Yamagata Prefecture is a region of northern Japan’s Tōhoku region, facing the Sea of Japan. Its mountains, hot springs, and agricultural valleys shape its landscapes and economy.

Yamagata cherries: Sweet cherries cultivated in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan’s leading cherry-producing prefecture. The prefecture’s best-known fruit crop thrives in its inland valleys.
Tōhoku region: The northeastern region of Japan’s main island, Honshu. Yamagata is one of the six prefectures that make up Tōhoku.
