Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug

Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is a federal subject of Russia in northwestern Siberia, named for the Yamal Peninsula and the Nenets people. Its economy and settlement pattern are strongly shaped by extensive natural-gas and oil deposits.

Yamal Peninsula: A peninsula in northwestern Siberia extending into the Kara Sea. The peninsula gives the autonomous okrug its first name and anchors its Arctic geography.
