Yingkou

Yingkou is a coastal city in Liaoning Province, northeastern China, at the mouth of the Daliao River and on the northern shore of Liaodong Bay.

Treaty of Tianjin: The 1858 treaties that ended the first phase of the Second Opium War and opened additional Chinese ports to foreign trade. The treaties opened Niuzhuang to foreign commerce, a change that redirected trade through Yingkou.
Port of Yingkou: A major seaport in Liaoning Province on the northern shore of Liaodong Bay. The port is the city's central maritime facility and a key source of its commercial role.
Dalian: A major port city at the southern tip of Liaodong Peninsula in Liaoning Province. Dalian and Yingkou are the principal seaports on opposite sides of Liaodong's regional geography.
Liaoning railway network: The system of railway lines serving Liaoning Province and connecting its cities, ports, and industrial centers. Railways shifted regional freight patterns and changed Yingkou's position among Liaoning's ports.
Niuzhuang: A historic port and settlement in Liaoning, known internationally as Newchwang. Foreign merchants used the name Niuzhuang for the port that developed at Yingkou.
Liaodong Bay: A shallow bay in the northern part of the Bohai Sea, bordered by Liaoning Province. Yingkou's seaborne trade operates along this bay's coast.
Panjin: A city in Liaoning Province near the Liao River delta and the northern coast of Liaodong Bay. Panjin lies near Yingkou across the delta region and shares its coastal setting.
Chinese Eastern Railway: A railway built by Russia across northeastern China in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The railway strengthened competing routes through Manchuria and affected older port trade patterns.
Second Opium War: An 1856–1860 war between Qing China and Britain and France, ending with expanded foreign access to China. Its treaties created the conditions for Yingkou's opening as a treaty port.
Bohai Sea: A marginal sea of the western Pacific, enclosed by northern China's coastline. The bay beside Yingkou opens into this sea and its regional shipping routes.
