Yuen Ren Chao

Yuen Ren Chao (1892–1982) was a Chinese linguist, composer, and educator whose work shaped modern Chinese linguistics, especially phonology, dialect research, and language teaching.

Bernard Bloch: An American linguist who helped establish structural linguistics in the United States. Chao and Bloch were colleagues in American linguistics and shared an interest in rigorous phonetic description.
